Meet The Industry Supporters

The Wind Energy Center at Kalamazoo Valley Community College has launched the Wind Turbine Technician Academy for the purpose of providing a fast track to high demand/high pay jobs.  Wind Turbine Technicians support construction and play key roles in the safe and effective operation and maintenance of wind farms.  It is estimated that between 1,000 and 2,000 new technicians will be needed, nationwide, to support the current pattern of industry growth.  A Wind Turbine Technician is needed for every 10 turbines.

The United States recently surpassed 20,000 Megawatts of installed wind energy generating capacity.  A recent report by the Department of Energy demonstrates the feasibility of producing 20% of our nation's electrical power through Wind Energy by 2030.  Wind farm operations would require 28,000 workers per year bringing the total wind related employment to more than 215,000.
