Advanced Manufacturing - Transforming and Diversifying Your
Business into an Alternative/Revewable Energy Industry
On Friday, March 20, 2009, Keith
W. Cooley, President and Chief Operating Officer, NextEnergy
Center, spoke to the Manufacturers' Breakfast Forum
attendees on diversifying into alternative energy. NextEnergy
is already one of the nation's leading research catalysts
and business accelerators for alternative and renewable energy.
NextEnergy provides an exciting new engine for
economic development in Michigan, building on the state's
ongoing commitment to establish national leadership in the
development of alternative and renewable energy.

Working in the Aerospace Industry: Challenges and Opportunities
On April 29, 2008, Greg Bierlein,
General Manager, Parker Aerospace's Hydraulic Systems Division
(Parker HSD) agreed to present to local manufacturing executives
on advanced manufacturing - aerospace in order to create awareness
about what is involved in working in the aerospace industry
today. Parker HSD designs and manufactures aircraft hydraulic
systems, Trust Reverser Actuation Systems, engine-driven and
electric motor-driven pumps, electric motors and various aircrft
system products. Parker Aerospace has supply contracts with
a variety of aerospace companies including multi billion dollar
contracts with Airbus and Boeing to provide systems for the
A350 XWB and 787, respectively.

At a special Manufacturers Executive
Breakfast on January 31, 2008, Steve Bradley, Senior Director
of Global Operations, presented on the above titled topic
in order to increase awareness regarding what is involved
in manufacturing for the medical device industry overall.
It is well known that in order to flourish, manufacturers
need to diversity their customer base beyond the automobile
industry. Advanced manufacturing of medical, alternative energy,
aerospace and homeland security devices will likely be key
drivers of the future economy.
